At ABCDE Collective, LLC, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) isn't just another service we have to offer—it’s the heart of what we do. Unlike generalist speech-language pathologists who may only touch on AAC occasionally, our practice is led by a dedicated AAC specialist with advanced training, clinical experience, and a deep understanding of the complex needs of non-speaking and minimally verbal children.
We specialize in comprehensive AAC assessment and individualized feature matching to ensure that each child receives the right communication system—tailored to their strengths, needs, and developmental stage. Our evidence-based approach goes far beyond trialing a device; we focus on long-term implementation, team training, and real-life communication outcomes.
We recognize that AAC is a new communication journey, not just for the child, but for the family. That’s why we provide hands-on parent coaching and compassionate guidance every step of the way—including navigating the insurance funding process, selecting the right device, and building confidence in using AAC at home and in the community.
When you choose ABCDE Collective, you're choosing a level of AAC support that generalist providers simply aren’t trained to deliver. We don’t just give your child a device—we help unlock their voice.

Our AAC specialist welcoming new devices— because every child deserves the tools to be heard

An AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps determine the best communication tools for individuals who are not yet utilizing verbal language to get their needs met across contexts. At ABCDE Collective, our AAC specialist carefully matches a child’s unique communication needs, motor abilities, and learning profile with the most appropriate AAC system—whether that’s a high-tech speech-generating device or a low-tech option. Unlike major hospitals who will meet your child once and choose a system that will stick with them for years to come, we spend a minimum of three sessions exploring different communication options and following your child's lead. We also involve families and teams in the process to ensure successful use across home, school, and community settings.

An AAC treatment session focuses on helping a child learn how to use their communication system effectively and independently. At ABCDE Collective, sessions are individualized and goal-driven, targeting meaningful communication like making choices, expressing needs, participating in play, and engaging socially. We use evidence-based strategies such as modeling and guided practice, all embedded in fun, play-based activities to keep children motivated and confident. Sessions also include coaching for families and caregivers to support AAC use across routines—so communication doesn’t just happen in therapy, but throughout the child’s day at home, school, and in the community.

Empowering families is at the heart of successful AAC use. Our AAC Parent Training program is designed to equip you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to support your child’s communication development at home and in everyday settings. Through personalized coaching, hands-on demonstrations, and practical strategies, we help you understand how to use your child’s communication device or system effectively.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your understanding, our training focuses on making AAC a natural part of your family’s daily routine. Together, we’ll explore ways to encourage your child’s expression, foster independence, and create meaningful interactions that strengthen your bond. We are here to support you every step of the way on this rewarding journey.
